Featured: Alicia & Michael {Portland Bride & Groom}

A few of my details from Alicia & Michael's gorgeous wedding are included in the Summer/Fall 2012 issue of Portland Bride & Groom magazine - check out the online feature here, or pick up the magazine at many locations in Portland! I assisted this wedding for Jay Eads. He was so generous to include me in the feature, many photographers would not do that and I'm so grateful!

Megan & Nathan {Philomath Wedding Photography}

Megan and Nathan's wedding (my first in winter!) was held at the Philomath Scout Lodge in Philomath, Oregon. Christmas carols, snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, twinkling lights and poinsetta centerpieces - everything was lovely! Megan and Nathan met through friends and were together for over 5 years before they got engaged. That solidity and comfort with each other really showed throughout the entire day. The two of them, and their friends and family, were incredibly sweet and welcoming. They were also very good sports about the cold during portraits - and the wintry fog was so beautiful. It was a wonderful day and I was happy to be a part of it! To the new Mr. & Mrs. Hickman, I wish you all the love and happiness in the world!

Isn't Nathan's car awesome??! He restored it himself. I got to ride in it around the parking lot, pretty cool. ;)

Alicia & Michael {Portland Wedding Photography}

This was such a wonderfully beautiful, meaningful, and hilarious wedding! They got ready at a gorgeous hotel (The Nines), married at a gorgeous church (Trinity Episcopal Cathedral), and celebrated with a gorgeous rooftop party (Ecotrust Building). Alicia, Michael, and their friends and family are fantastic people and had me cracking up the entire day. I was so happy to second shoot for Jay Eads, check out his post from the day here.

Thieving Voodoo Doughnuts :)

Michael & Elise {Portland Engagement Photography}

Michael and I go way back - we were great friends the last couple years of high school. Then he was in Utah, and we lost touch for a bit, but still saw each other every so often. And I was SO excited when he called me to tell me he was getting married and even more excited to hear that he wanted me to shoot the wedding! I got to meet his fianceé, Elise, when we met for coffee to discuss their wedding, and of course she is amazing. And they are a ridiculously cute couple, as you will see. Can't wait for their wedding in July!

occupy portland {movement}

portland's movement in solidarity with occupy wall street begins tomorrow at 12pm at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. though i have to work and cannot protest full-time, i'll be there when i can and will be in support at all times. please consider heading down and doing what you can - donate, bring tents & food, stand up and speak out in support of this nonviolent movement against corporate and governmental greed and corruption. "We are the 99 percent. We are getting kicked out of our homes. We are forced to choose between groceries and rent. We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution. We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we're working at all. We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything. We are the 99 percent." - http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/

i'm on the more fortunate side of the spectrum, for now. i've got a job that i love and am trying my hardest to whittle away at my student debt. but it's a fine line, and i know i'm not alone in that. nor can i ignore how many people in this country are drowning while others sit back and take it easy. how many of us have no golden parachute, no nest egg? how many of us have no health care or coverage that is laughable? how many work their whole lives and worry that they will never be able to retire? how many can't send their kids to college? 99% of us.
