the girl with the green hair {portland lifestyle photography}

one of the things i love about photographing alyssa is her look is always changing. last time i shot with her she had black hair. for this shoot, green. next time it will probably be something different.

we had been talking for awhile about this shoot - sort of inspired by hedi slimane's portraits of frances bean cobain. playing gritty, lots of black and white (although i couldn't resist a few in color). playing with light and contrast. just playing, which is what test shoots are for. keeping inspired, figuring out new things to try.

i've got a few more tests to post soon. stay tuned... :)

Alexa & Alex {Portland Wedding Photography}

in september i had the opportunity to 2nd shoot for the absolutely wonderful andria lindquist. that in and of itself would have been awesome, but the wedding was so ridiculously beautiful, thoughtful, and filled with happiness! it was a gorgeously-sunny, elegantly-dressed, lit-up-with-love, march-down-the-street-with-a-freaking-band type of day. and i felt so lucky to be there! thank you andria, for having me along! and thank you to alex and alexa and their wonderful friends and family - congratulations!

these are my favorite images from the day. you can see andria's post here. and, while you're at it, check out this documentary she was featured in. it's pretty cool, inspiring for creatives of all types. happy happy weekend.

Shaun & Jessica {Portland Engagement Photography}

I've known these two for a long time but hadn't seen either of them since early college. Heard they were engaged through facebook, and then randomly ran into them at a bar a few months ago when they moved to Portland from St. Louis. To be asked to shoot their engagement session was an absolute privilege and a joy. They are so sweet and so comfortable with each other - photographing that kind of love is so much fun.

Shaun and Jessica had two concepts for their engagement session: on the one hand, an urban "Portland-y" vibe; on the other, a nod to their Mardi Gras-masquerade-themed wedding. We met up early to catch the early morning sunshine - worth it. Oh, and no big deal, Jessica had strawberries, bagels & cream cheese, and orange juice waiting when I arrived (yum).

I'm so happy for both of you - and so happy you live in Portland now!
